Doors & Wooden Trims

Doors & Wooden Trims
We take great care in the painting of doors, architraves and door panels. We take care and patience throughout to ensure that the surface is smooth and paint coating consistent. We are happy to paint wooden trims, skirting, door frames as part of a full painting refurbishment project from a single room to a complete property. We are unable to price for a single skirting section or trim, only if part of a package as it will not be cost effective to quote and complete these smaller elements solely.
We use proven techniques that we have used throughout the years at Brushcraft to complete doors and wooden trim package deals. There’s a particular process that we follow with painting wooden trims, that is similar to painting doors. We make sure that all output from our business is in-house and comes from our experienced team members. This allows us to control the quality output and complete the job to the high-standard we sets ourselves.
Here’s the typical process that we follow:
(This is depending on the surfaces and environments we’re working with)
1.) Sanding the Surface
When you are using the best paints possible, sometimes there still may be problems depending on the surface you’re working with. This is why it’s essential to sand down the surface before we start, to give that perfect finish when the project reaches its end. The best way to go about this is by using an orbit sander or palm sander – depending on the shape and size – and sand the surface down thoroughly before applying the paint. To be most effective with this technique, we sand with the grain and swap the sandpaper sheet frequently to get the optimum result.
2.) Clean the Surface
After thoroughly sanding the surface, the next job is it clean the surface down. Whilst sanding is great, it can still collect little bits of telescopic dust particles that can interfere with the quality of paint applied further down the line. The easiest way of doing this and cleaning the surface is by using a soft cloth that’s been rinsed in cold water. We make sure to not use a tack cloth as this can be potentially damaging to the wooden trims we work on.
3.) Prime and Paint
Now we have prepared the surface, we can get to grips with the real work and start to prime and paint the wooden trims or/and the doors. We will use our best brushes and give each coat the recommended time in between to fully dry and recover before going on to the extra layers. This is particularly important as if we don’t leave it long enough, there may be patchy colours and shades that could give it a real tacky look. We use a variety of paints but semi-gloss or satin are normally the ones we will use for a quality finish as they’re outstanding for durability.
4.) Paint Colour
It can be hard to choose the right colour or shade to really bring out your room’s personality. Our experienced team will be hand to help you, give you advice and point you in the right direction but ultimately, its your choice! The most common colour is white as it’s a traditional and clean look. However, other colours can look great too.
The general rule is that if your walls wear a colour that is soft or bold then white trim generally goes well. The most important thing is making sure the walls and wooden trims are colour co-ordinated and it creates the idea style that you’re going for.
