When it comes to walls and ceilings, it can become quite complicated in terms of the colours to choose, the order of the work and many more unanswered questions. Our professionals will be doing all the work for you. However, we know it’s better for our customers to have a better understanding of how we do things so you can have a much bigger say in your vision. It’s our job to bring that vision to life.
Here’s a short FAQ about painting walls & ceilings with our answers:
1.) Do the walls or ceilings get painted first?
This depends on the room we’re working with. However, as we normally paint entire rooms, we would normally pain the ceilings and then the walls. This is because we can effectively paint the ceiling first with however many coats necessary and then let it dry before we start on the surrounding walls. This also prevents overspray which in other words is the effect of excess paint being sprayed on the walls.
2.) Should I choose a white colour for my ceiling?
Sometimes, people will want to be different and go for something more out of the ordinary or a colour that’s unexpected. While sometimes this can work, mostly it’s beneficial to stick to a shade of white. This is because there’s a high chance that it won’t blend in with the rest of the room and the current style. Other colours can create a creative look but white is your typical standard colour that will match with anything.
3.) Is it important to prepare the room before you start?
It’s essential to clear the room before we start painting and we highly advise this to all of our customers. We recommend that you clear out all furniture and belongings that you don’t want to get ruined. While we use protective sheets and always operate on a safety-first approach, it’s still massively important to not take any risks as paints can stain and wreck belongings. We will ensure your safety by covering the floor with dust sheets.
4.) What is the best paint used for walls and ceilings?
A lot of the time it comes down to personal preference but we recommend emulsion quite frequently. We recommend Vinyl Matt Emulsion because it gives a non-shiny finish that which will hide any imperfections that may otherwise have shone through. The non-shiny allows imperfect walls to have a fantastic finish that you can be proud of.
5.) How many coats of paint will be have to apply?
Generally speaking, we normally use the rule of thumb of a minimum of two coats on walls and ceilings, with plenty time in between to allow them to dry. However, depending on the service we are working with sometimes it may take three or even four coats if it’s still not quite even. We have quality at the front of our minds and we will apply as many coats as necessary to give you a room you’re proud of.
